Overview

The Research Assistant 1 HSS provides support to various research; clinical; and overdose and infectious disease prevention activities at the Yale Community Health Care Van Program. 

Dispense overdose and infectious disease prevention supplies, provide counseling to clients. 
Collect used supplies from community. Input data. 
Assist with FTIR for drug identification, update listserv and webpage. 
Assist with HIV and HCV testing and referrals to care. 
Participate in research activities for studies: Enroll, consent, and conduct follow-up, manage incentives. Input and analyze data. 
Assist with abstract and manuscript preparation. 

Position is hybrid / per-diem as needed. 

Required Skills and Abilities

1) Experience with overdose prevention and infectious disease prevention supply management.
2) Experience with  overdose prevention and infectious disease prevention counseling.
3) Understanding of illicit drug supply.
4) Experience with research activities and data analysis. 
5) Experience with people with substance use disorder diagnoses. 

Preferred Skills and Abilities

1. Education: BA/BS or MPH
2. Research Experience: Previous experience in research settings, particularly involving clinical trials, psychiatric evaluations, or substance use disorders. Familiarity with data collection software and statistical analysis tools.
3. Certifications: Relevant certifications or training in clinical research, HIPAA compliance, phlebotomy, or medical terminology.
4. Language Skills: Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is advantageous.
5. Community Engagement: Familiarity with community health systems or experience working with community-based organizations, particularly those involved in public health or social services.

Principal Responsibilities

1. Researches and collects data through site or home visit intakes; library research; structured interviews; or through other means for designated research assignments. 2. Records and compiles information related to research data. Codes data accordingly to research specifications. Uses a computer terminal to input and retrieve data and to generate reports. 3. Processes and summarizes data using scientific or statistical techniques. Assists in data interpretation and analyses. Reports on status of research activities. 4. Recruits study participants and ensures that subject recruitment and follow-up are completed per protocol procedures. 5. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. May assist in designing, developing, and modifying research experiments, procedures, or survey instruments. May assist research and support staff. 6. Performs additional functions incidental to research activities. Required Education and Experience Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate's degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor's degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
