What we want  

The Research Assistant in at TAMU Health, Naresh K. Vashisht College of Medicine Department of Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics (NExT) provides skilled, administrative, and technical support in research. Assists with phases in a research project. In addition, they will plan and direct certain aspects of a research project focused on understanding mechanisms involved related to spinal cord injury. Collaborate with other research personnel.

Salary: Will be commensurate based on the selected hire’s education and experience.   

Location/Schedule: Bryan, TX/Full-Time; This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.

Responsibilities

Research

  • Assists in the design, planning, and coordination of experiments in support of various research projects.

  • Selects and applies standard techniques of routine research and keeps detailed records of data.

  • Assists in the installation and operation of research equipment. May repair research equipment.

  • Uses and computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results.

  • Collects, records, maintains, and analyzes experimental/research data.

General Lab Duties

  • Maintains all NEXT department core-related related resources, including autoclaves, liquid nitrogen tanks, confocal microscopes, eyewash stations, and the NEXT behavioral core.

  • Supports Principal Investigator (PI) laboratories by coordinating and addressing facilities-related repairs, while also assisting with broader maintenance and operational needs across the NEXT department.

Research Publications

  • Assists in preparing and writing proposals to funding agencies; maintains financial accounts related to research projects.

  • Assists with reports, invoices, and cataloging records.

Mentorship

  • Assists undergraduate and/or graduate students and other laboratory, technical or field staff involved in research.

  • Assist with training lab staff on the use of autoclaves, confocals and all other core NEXT equipment as needed.

 

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Biology, Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Psychology, or related fields.

  • Demonstrated experience in prior roles requiring strong organizational skills, attention to cleanliness and order, and effective teamwork in settings similar to this position.

  • Previous laboratory experience.

  • Excellent organizational, written, and oral communication skills.

  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and have excellent interpersonal skills.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position.

  • Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Intimate knowledge of NEXT laboratory maintenance and NEXT equipment.

  • Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position.
