Research Assistant (Hourly), Department of Surgery - School of Medicine

Summary

The Department of Surgery at VCU is recruiting for an hourly research assistant to support Dr. Martin Mangino. This position will perform shock studies in rodent models to test new drugcandidates for treatment. The technician will be required to independentlylearn and perform rodent surgery, placement of vascular catheters, maintainanesthesia, record cardiovascular data on a data acquisition system, and followexperimental shock and treatment protocols. The individual will work both in agroup setting and be independent.

 

Minimum requirements

• BS degree in biology or a basic science
• Literacy with Microsoft Office
• Willingness to learn new techniques and skills.
• The ability to learn to recorddata into excel and prepare scientific charts and graphs using specificsoftware is required.
• Demonstrated experience fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or a commitment to do so
