Position Purpose To set up and conduct a variety of laboratory tests and experiments in support of research studies directed at understanding the pulmonary immune response against fungal pathogens by applying established methods, procedures, and techniques.

Description

Required Qualifications

  • Education and Yrs Exp: Bachelors plus 1-2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
  • Competence in several laboratory methods, procedures, and techniques as well as the equipment and instruments. These include but are not limited to:
  • Animal husbandry and handling
  • Cell culture
  • RNA analysis
  • Protein analysis
  • Flow cytometry
  • Microbiological cultivation
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team setting with good judgment and good organizational and time management skills.
  • Willingness to work with/be exposed to hazardous materials such as infectious materials and/or hazardous chemicals.
  • Knowledge of computers and software applications.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Conducts laboratory experiments/tests utilizing a range of established in vitro and in vivo methods, procedures, and techniques with necessary preparations, observes experiments, records observations, and maintains laboratory notebook.

    • Percentage Of Time: 75%
  2. Prepares appropriate and understandable representations of data such as graphs, charts, tables, statistical summaries, etc. Analyzes data resulting from experimentation/testing. Summarizes results and prepares progress reports for oral presentation.

    • Percentage Of Time: 5%
  3. Instructs others in laboratory methods, procedures, and techniques and provides technical guidance and direction as required. Maintains both computerized and written records associated with laboratory activities.

    • Percentage Of Time: 5%
  4. Laboratory maintenance including order lab supplies, monitors laboratory equipment and instrument performance, obtains maintenance and repair as necessary.

    • Percentage Of Time: 5%

  6. May assist in animal research including maintenance of mouse colonies, injections, breeding, in vivo assays, and entering data into computerized databases.
