Job Title: Research Assistant I - Molecular & Human Genetics

Work Arrangement: Onsite only

Salary Range: $47,732 - $55,731

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Work Schedule: Flexible

Summary

The Tran lab is seeking a motivated and talented person interested in studying mechanisms of neuronal resilience and regeneration in the visual system. The successful candidate will receive direct training from the PI to work independently and contribute to a series of projects. The Research Assistant will gain hands on experience implementing cutting-edge approaches in molecular biology, stem cells, gene therapy, disease modeling, and single cell genomics.

Job Duties

  • Prepare and conduct laboratory research experiments
  • Meet with the PI weekly and present regularly in lab meetings
  • Maintain an organized electronic lab notebook
  • Perform animal husbandry, weanings, euthanasia as needed
  • Provide support for animal surgeries
  • Maintain accurate animal husbandry and genotyping records
  • Perform primary retinal cell and retinal organoid cultures
  • Harvest tissues for immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization
  • Perform molecular biology approaches including DNA, RNA and protein extractions, molecular cloning, and PCR
  • Monitor and order lab supplies and reagents as needed
  • Provide administrative support for general lab operations
  • Perform assigned general laboratory chores

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor''s degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master''s degree in basic science or a related field.
  • Experience working with mice or rodents
  • Experience with cell culture
  • Experience in immunohistochemistry
  • Experience working with DNA/RNA/protein for molecular biology techniques
