Overview
The Research Assistant 1 MS in Biomedical Informatics and Data Science supports specific basic science research efforts by carrying out defined technical tasks in the "dry lab" using standard biological and computational equipment and apparatus. Responsibilities include following specific regimens or protocols to achieve research goals; acquiring, collecting, inputting, and reporting research data; and maintaining the laboratory for safety, operations, and security. Additionally, the Research Assistant performs analyses of real-world healthcare data, defines patient cohorts, may train incoming personnel in analytic workflows, and reports study findings which are presented regularly in lab meetings.
Required Skills and Abilities
Proven experience working with large, structured healthcare or observational datasets (e.g., claims, EHR, or registry data), including querying and analyzing data using SQL or Python.
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize and multitask.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with laboratory software or databases.
Ability to work with, and analyze, complex data, including defining patient cohorts, applying inclusion/exclusion criteria, and summarizing and reporting study results.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
Bachelor's degree in a field such as biology, data science, computer science, or a related field, with at least one year of laboratory experience.
Background in biology, neuroscience, data science / analysis, or computer science.
Proficiency in SQL and Python for manipulating and analyzing real-world data; familiarity with observational study design, cohort definition, and standard data models (e.g., OMOP CDM) is a plus.
