Job Summary:

The Scholars Program at the Getty Research Institute (GRI) seeks highly motivated graduate students to join our team of Research Assistants. These limited term, part-time positions support the research, publication, exhibitions, and other activities of scholars at the Getty Center in Brentwood and the Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades. Candidates who specialize in the art and visual cultures of all periods and regions are encouraged to apply. 

Major Job Responsibilities:
  • Conducting research in art history, archaeology, and related fields using library resources, special collections, and digital databases
  • Supporting project development by organizing and documenting materials, compiling bibliographies, identifying and requesting relevant publications, and conducting literature reviews
  • Requesting images for exhibitions and publications and obtains necessary copyright permissions
  • Proofreading, editing, and translating project materials as needed
  • Assisting with the creation of project websites and PowerPoint presentations
  • Performing additional tasks as assigned to support the overall research goals of the scholar
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in art history, archaeology, classics, history, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • 0-2 years research experience (education may be considered)
  • Working knowledge in at least one foreign language preferred

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Detail-oriented and able to balance multiple assignments simultaneously with accuracy and professionalism
  • Demonstrated research experience in academic or museum settings
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively on long-term projects
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines for oneself
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Creative Cloud, research databases (such as JSTOR or Artstor), and citation management tools (such as Zotero or EndNote)
