Job Summary:

The Office of the Interim/Deputy Director of the Getty Research Institute (GRI) is seeking an individual with strong administrative experience and institutional writing skills to serve as the Research Assistant to the Interim/Deputy Director. Under direct supervision of the Director, the Research Assistant will assist in the generation of both internal reports and external presentations. Working broadly across all functional areas of the GRI, this individual will be facilitating research and/or assisting with programs, publications, communications, exhibitions, and the scholars’ program.

Major Job Responsibilities:
  • Participate in and assist with gathering, maintaining, editing, and disseminating materials related to Getty’s institutional goals
  • Contribute to the departmental outreach through research, planning, development, execution, and follow up
  • Cultivate and sustain professional relationships with national and international arts professionals to support and strengthen GRI partnerships
  • Requests images for exhibitions and/or publications; researches and obtains art and image permissions
  • Assists with creation of PowerPoint and multi-media presentations
  • May copyedit essays, speaker remarks, and internal reports
  • Conducts research in GRI Special Collections and library
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree, Ph.D., or Ph.D. candidate in art history, arts administration, communications, or a related field preferred
  • 0-2 years research experience or work in contemporary art including gallery or museum background (education may be considered)
  • Strong skills in gathering, manipulating, evaluating, and presenting qualitative and quantitative data

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in French, German, Korean, or Japanese a plus
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a timely manner
  • Ability to build relationships, collaborate and work on teams
  • Ability to set and meet deadlines for oneself
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (required) and Adobe software suite (preferred)
