    Description:

    The Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences in the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine at the University of Houston invites applications for a Research Assistant Professor position in the field of Behavioral Science and Social Work Research. We are recruiting new faculty who have achieved excellence in education, teaching, and research and are prepared to contribute to our bold vision.

    The University of Houston is a comprehensive, Carnegie Tier 1 public research university located on a park-like campus close to the Texas Medical Center and major energy companies, with over 45,000 students distributed across 15 colleges, including Nursing, Pharmacy, Optometry, and Social Work.     This is a Research Assistant Professor non-tenure track faculty position.

    This position will be full time at 1.0 FTE conducting funded research and providing clinical services in the UH Family Care Center or other clinical sites.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead and participate in externally funded research within the faculty member's area of expertise, with an emphasis on UH College of Medicine (UHCOM) priority areas, including social determinants of health and common medical and psychosocial conditions affecting underserved populations. Collaborate with UHCOM faculty and faculty across other University of Houston departments and colleges on scholarly and research activities.
    • Secure external funding to support the faculty member's research program and salary, with a focus on UHCOM priority areas, including social determinants of health and common medical and psychosocial conditions affecting underserved populations.
    • Mentor and support medical student research projects that align with the faculty member's areas of expertise.
    • Provide clinical services consistent with the faculty member's discipline and expertise within the UH Family Care Center and/or other UH-affiliated clinical settings. Responsibilities may include supervision of medical students and other health professions learners.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Doctoral degree in clinical social work or related discipline (psychology).
    • Licensed or license eligible to practice profession in the State of Texas. Eligible to supervise trainees in person's field.
    • Knowledge of NIH and other federal funding sources and skilled at writing fundable grant applications.
    • Knowledge of best practices in teaching and learning, including active and applied learning modalities.
    • Strong analytical skills and ability to use data to inform decision-making.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Demonstrated leadership abilities and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Prefer candidate have existing NIH or other federal funding that they bring to UHCOM.
    • Track record of scholarly contributions and publications in their field.

    Applicants must have a PhD, MD or DO from an accredited institution. Official transcripts are required for faculty appointment and will be requested upon selection of the final candidate(s). Physician applicants must possess an unrestricted Texas Medical License and board certification in their specialty. While exceptions may be considered, approval must be obtained from the Vice Dean of Education and/or the Dean of the College of Medicine and the Office of the Provost. All positions within the University of Houston System are security sensitive and will require a criminal history check. Physician applicants are required to provide documentation of current licensure and board certification as part of their application materials.

    Employees are expected to have a home address in the state of Texas for the duration of their appointments.
