HPS-CFE Research Assistant (Full-Time)

BASIC FUNCTION

Under general supervision of the Associate Director of Strategy controls workflow and establishes research procedures in support of efforts that promote achievement of the HPS Center for Financial Excellence's short-term and long-term research initiatives. Uses independent judgment and initiative in carrying out regular assignments by established policies and procedures. This position reports directly to the Executive Director of HPS-CFE.

NATURE AND SCOPE

Internal contacts include administrators, faculty, students, and staff of the department and University. External communications include vendors, consultants, visitors, and the public.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

While a research assistant is expected to contribute in many ways to the research project, typical responsibilities include the following:

  • Perform systematic, scoping, and narrative literature reviews to inform research design, grant applications, manuscript backgrounds, and evidence synthesis products.
  • Assist with development and refinement of study instruments, including surveys, interview and focus group guides, screening tools, and data collection protocols.
  • Conduct and support quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis using appropriate software packages (e.g., SAS, R, Stata, SPSS, NVivo, ATLAS.ti.
  • Recruit subjects to participate in research studies; assesses potential participants for eligibility; enrolls study participants, including explaining research procedures & protocols and obtaining informed consent of subjects and/or their families.
  • Maintain accurate records of interviews, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary.
  • Prepare materials and facilitate ongoing compliance with Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements and sponsor guidelines.
  • Provide ready access to all experimental data for the faculty researcher and/or supervisor.
  • Request or acquire equipment or supplies necessary for the project.
  • Manage and respond to project related email.
  • Attend project meetings.
  • Prepare articles, reports, and presentations.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by Center researchers.

CORE COMPETENCIES

  • Experience in managing the research process, including communications and relationships related to research and maintenance and management of data.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and ability to collaborate effectively as well as work independently.
  • Comfortable with (or with learning) project technology platforms and software packages as needed.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Professional demeanor, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, reliability, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must have the ability to take initiative and handle multiple priorities and tasks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (i.e. MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) and web browsers. Experience with statistical software (NVIVO) is a plus.
  • Coursework in data collection and research methodology.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors' degree required. Master's degree preferred. MBA in finance or finance-related field is a plus.
  • Two or more years of related academic and/or work experience related to the field of research, as defined by the supervisor and/or lead researcher.
  • Experience with specialized software or datasets, as required by the supervisor and/or lead researcher.

  • 40 hours/week
