Job Summary/Basic Functions

The Department of Genetics of the LSU School of Medicine has an opening for a Research Associate 1. Incumbent will grow bacterial cultures and assist with protein purification and biochemical and biophysical assays. Incumbent will set up and conduct standard research experiments. In addition, incumbent will handle general lab management tasks, such as reagent ordering, environmental health and safety compliance, and lab maintenance.

Other Information About the Position

Data Collection, Testing, Analysis and Interpretation:

Under direct supervision, perform standard research assignments

Identify data requirements and data sources

Collect and manage patient /or laboratory data for research projects, following specific research protocols

Set up and conduct standard research experiments following detailed technical instructions Conduct basic qualitative and quantitative analysis

Assist in compilation and tabulation of data and perform preliminary analysis

Laboratory Management:

Maintain inventory of lab supplies, order lab supplies and disposables as requested, and equipment and scheduled maintenance

Adhere to all applicable safety and compliance standards and internal controls established for the department.

Provide supervision and guidance to students, fellows, and junior level technicians

Grant/Project Specific:

Responsible for daily equipment setup and standardization checks

Must have experience with Excel and graphing software

Must be able to plot data for quantitative analyses for reports and publications

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor''s
