Job Summary

Albany State University invites applicants for a Research Associate position supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The successful candidate will join an active research program focused on computational modeling of biomolecular systems. This is a full-time research appointment with an initial term of one year, with the possibility of renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance and continued funding. Sponsorship is not available for this position.

Responsibilities

The Research Associate will be responsible for conducting independent and collaborative research in computational chemistry and computational biology, with primary duties including:

• Performing molecular dynamics simulations of ligand-protein systems. • Applying computational chemistry methods to investigate biomolecular interactions. • Utilizing AI-driven and data-driven approaches to study molecular interactions and structure-function relationships. • Analyzing and interpreting computational results. • Contributing to peer-reviewed publications, research reports, and grant-related activities.

Required Qualifications

Masters degree in Computational Chemistry, Computational Biology, Biophysics, or a closely related discipline. Demonstrated experience with molecular dynamics simulations and biomolecular modeling. Experience in ligand-protein interaction analysis. Familiarity with or strong interest in artificial intelligence/ machine learning approaches applied to chemical or biological systems will be a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

PhD preferred in Computational Chemistry, Computational Biology, Biophysics, or a closely related discipline.

Proposed Salary

Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Knowledge Knowledge of computational chemistry and computational biology, including molecular dynamics simulations and biomolecular modeling of ligand-protein systems. Knowledge of biomolecular interaction analysis and structure-function relationships, with familiarity or strong interest in AI- and data-driven approaches applied to molecular systems.

Skills Skill in performing molecular dynamics simulations and analyzing ligand-protein interactions using computational modeling tools. Skill in analyzing and interpreting computational data and contributing findings to research reports, manuscripts, and grant-related activities.

Abilities Ability to conduct independent and collaborative research in a grant-funded academic environment while meeting project deadlines. Ability to communicate scientific results effectively, both in writing and through collaboration with faculty and research teams.
