Overview:
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI) or designee, the Research Associate I provides operational support to the laboratory. The Research Associate I will perform research experiments as defined by the PI.
The laboratory of Accalia Fu is seeking a research associate with interests or experience in metabolism and diabetes, who is energized by multi-tasking and is looking for rapid growth in their research expertise. The lab studies how molecular metabolism impacts the cell’s ability to adapt and response to stress which centers on improving pancreatic beta cell function and survival to uncover diabetes therapeutic strategies and to make foundational discoveries in metabolic biology.
Primary tasks will focus on a specified research project working with senior lab staff and secondarily helping with general lab operations. The candidate should be willing to work with mice using in vivo (e.g. live metabolic tests, injections, euthanasia) and ex vivo (e.g. blood processing, tissue dissections) procedures and thrive in a fast-paced evolving research environment. Routine techniques include in vivo procedures and tissue isolations from mice, cell culture of human and mouse primary tissue and cell lines, molecular biology, biochemical/in vitro assays and enzymology, and flow cytometry.
The candidate may be trained in cutting-edge approaches for example metabolomics, proteomics, and spatial platforms. Basic knowledge of statistical analysis software (Excel, Graphpad, R packages) is an asset. The candidate will be mentored and trained beyond general lab skills and will be supported in preparing for their future scientific career goals. Our lab advocates for diversity, equity and inclusion we have an open-minded, welcoming environment, and are looking for candidates from all backgrounds and perspectives.
