ATUM is seeking an independent, detail-oriented Research Associate II to join our Cell Line Development (CLD) team in Newark, CA. This role primarily focuses on executing core mammalian cell line development workflows, mastering aseptic techniques, and maintaining high production standards. The ideal candidate works independently to execute routine protocols, while maintaining flexibility for rotational or occasional weekend coverage to support cell culture schedules.
Key Responsibilities
Cell Line Development Execution: Independently execute mammalian cell culture workflows using strict aseptic technique within a biosafety cabinet (BSC).
Lab Instrumentation & Operations: Safely operate and maintain analytical suites, including Vi-CELL analyzers, NOVA analyzers, centrifuges, incubators, and liquid handlers.
Sample & Inventory Management: Manage liquid nitrogen vial storage, inventory documentation, media preparation, and consumable supplies for the CLD laboratory.
Data Analysis & SOPs: Conduct routine experiments, analyze data to verify quality standards, troubleshoot minor technical issues, and maintain accurate Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and lab records.
Bioprocess Support : Assist with upstream high-throughput micro-bioreactors or benchtop vessels to support scale-up and process optimization.
Collaboration: Be a good team player, partnering effectively with scientists and cross-functional teams to meet production timelines.
Qualifications
Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, or a related scientific discipline with 1-3 years of hands-on experience in Cell Line Development.
Required Technical Skills:
Mastery of aseptic cell culture technique, experience with suspension cell lines, and proficiency with CLD lab equipment.
Hands-on experience operating automated micro-bioreactor systems (e.g., ambr® 15 / ambr® 250) or benchtop glass/disposable bioreactors (3L–10L).
Independence: Proven capability to execute lab protocols independently, manage daily tasks, and analyze data with high attention to detail.
Soft Skills: Meticulous record-keeping, strong communication skills, and a collaborative team-first mindset.
Schedule & Physical Requirements
Schedule: Full-time. Must be flexible and willing to work a schedule that includes weekend coverage as required.
Physical Demands: Standard laboratory movements, including manual pipetting, fluid pouring, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
