I. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs synthetic chemistry experiments to develop processes for new products.
  • Responsible for weighing, measuring, and addition of reagents to chemical reactions and ensures equipment is clean and in proper working order.
  • Leads and/or supports process improvements to improve final product purity, yield, or identified manufacturing deficiencies.
  • Performs synthesis of reference materials and final products.
  • Conducts analysis of In Process (IPC) samples during experiments, intermediates, and final products using instrumental methods including HPLC, GC, and NMR.
  • Submits IPC and Final Product samples to the Analytical Department for analysis to ensure products from development experiments meet specifications.
  • Reviews, troubleshoots, and resolves issues observed during Process Development and Manufacturing to ensure adherence to specifications.
  • Interprets analytical results to determine next steps in manufacturing.
  • Makes recommendations for process improvements.
  • Maintains a legible laboratory notebook.
  • Help maintain an accurate inventory of chemicals and supplies for reorder points.
  • Writes, reviews, and approves manufacturing batch records for products.
  • Uses professional concepts, policies, and procedures to solve a variety of problems.
  • Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Adhere to all safety and company policies to create a safe environment.

II. Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or other science related program is required.
  • 2+ years of experience working in the Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology or other related industry is required.
  • Must have a demonstrated working knowledge of scientific principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedures is required.
  • Solid written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to write detailed lab reports.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision at times.
  • Perform reactions and interpret analytical data.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint are required.
  • Must be familiar with the metric systems and conversion methods.
  • Ability to multi-task, work in an organized manner, and possess trouble-shooting skills.

III. Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screening and background check for employment consideration.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • May be required to perform tasks essential to the job function in areas that require the use of hearing protection devices.
  • Performance of tasks essential to the job function may require the employee to work directly with, handle, or otherwise come into contact with chemicals or pharmaceutical agents.
  • Must be able to wear a respiratory protection (filtering face piece, half-face, full-face, or powered air purifying respirator, supplied air, or self-contained breathing apparatus) for certain tasks essential to the job function.
  • Must be able to gain access to elevated work surfaces via vertical ladders or stairs to perform tasks essential to the job function.
  • Must be able to accurately detect color and have 20/20 vision (with/without corrective lenses).
  • May be required to enroll in a medical surveillance program based on the potential exposure to certain health hazards encountered as a result of their job function.
