Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

The University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville is seeking to hire a Research Biostatistician. This position provides entry-level statistical and methodological support for clinical, educational, population health, and quality improvement research projects. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Research , the Research Biostatistician collaborates with investigators throughout the research process, including study design, data management, statistical analysis, interpretation of findings, and dissemination of results. The Research Biostatistician will contribute to educational initiatives that strengthen research skills among trainees and faculty.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • Requires a bachelor's degree in a job related field and 2 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree with concentration in Biostatistics or Applied Statistics.
  • Graduate research assistantship experience in health sciences, public health, or biomedical research.
  • Experience using REDCap or similar research data management systems.
  • Familiarity with clinical, educational, or population health research.
  • Experience presenting research findings at professional meetings or contributing to scholarly publications.
  • Interest in pursuing a long-term career in academic medicine, public health, or research administration.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Knowledge of statistical principles and quantitative research methods.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data accurately and effectively.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities.

Research Consultation and Support

  • Provide statistical consultation and research support to faculty, residents, fellows, staff, and medical students.
  • Assist with study design, protocol development, data collection planning, and research methodology.
  • Conduct sample size and power calculations under appropriate supervision.
  • Assist in the development of statistical analysis plans and research proposals.
  • Support scholarly projects required for student and graduate medical education programs.

Data Analysis and Management

  • Perform statistical analyses using software such as R, SAS, SPSS, STATA, Python, or equivalent analytical platforms.
  • Clean, organize, validate, and manage research datasets.
  • Prepare tables, figures, statistical summaries, and reports for presentations, manuscripts, and research meetings.
  • Assist investigators in interpreting and communicating research findings.
  • Maintain documentation to support reproducibility and data integrity.

  • Assist with workshops and educational sessions focused on research methods and biostatistics.
  • Provide support and guidance to students and trainees conducting scholarly projects.
  • Develop educational materials and resources that promote research best practices.

Research Infrastructure Support

  • Assist with REDCap database development and maintenance.
  • Support program evaluation, quality improvement, and institutional research initiatives.
  • Participate in collaborative projects and special assignments within the Office of Research.
  • Contribute to efforts that strengthen research infrastructure and scholarly productivity across the School of Medicine.
