Job Summary
The Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention is a transdisciplinary institute that works to engage the breadth of expertise across the University of Michigan, with input from nonacademic stakeholders, to generate knowledge and advance solutions that will decrease firearm injury in the United States. The Institute fosters research that is mindful of the critical social and historical context of firearms in the US, and encourages various viewpoints, disciplinary perspectives, and approaches. The Institute also serves as a national hub for research that drives new solutions to this public health crisis and trains the next generation of leaders in the field. The Institute is supported by an organizational structure that provides internal oversight and external guidance and focuses activities across six cores: 1) research and scholarship, 2) education and training, 3) community outreach and translation, 4) policy, 5) implementation, and 5) data and methods; and across six pillars: firearm-related suicide, firearm-related intimate partner violence, community violence, unintentional shootings, police shootings, and mass/school violence.
A Research Coordinator is sought to work closely on projects within the Research & Scholarship Core team at the Institute. Supervised by the Core Manager, this position will specifically provide support to faculty and postdoctoral scholars throughout the pre- and post-award grant process, including grant proposal preparation and submission, budget development and monitoring, progress reporting, IRB applications and amendments, data use agreements, research project start-up tasks, research project coordination, and other research administration and regulatory-related tasks. This position will also provide assistance with developing and implementing internal pilot award programs, tracking progress, outcomes, and financial expenditures of pilot programs, coordinating research award nominations, and supporting the Core's efforts to foster collaboration and connect firearm injury prevention scholarship across the University. The team is looking for a skilled writer with a history of supporting successful grant proposal applications to a variety of federal and foundation funding sources and experience managing research projects at various stages.
The successful candidate is expected to understand and support the conduct of research within all federal, state and local regulatory requirements.
The primary duties of this position will include, but will not be limited to:
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree in a related field (associate level), Master's degree preferred; Master's degree in related field (intermediate level).
1-3 years (associate level) or 4-5 years (intermediate level) of related experience and/or research project coordination with a demonstrated ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and deadlines.
Experience with academic research enterprises including: externally sponsored research, research administration, and/or funding sources.
Experience with both pre- and post-award research administration and/or management or coordination.
Writing grant proposals to federal and foundation funding sources.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google programs (e.g., Gmail, Calendar, Drive); and Zoom.
Effective organization and management of multiple priorities in a complex environment.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Careful attention to detail.
Ability to both work independently and as a successful team member.
Writing samples will be requested from all that are offered interviews.

Work Schedule
This position is for a hybrid work schedule of both in-person and remote work with 2 days of on-campus work expected each week.
Underfill Statement
This position may be filled at the level of Research Area Specialist Intermediate (102907) or Research Area Specialist Associate (102905) depending on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant.
