Provides data coordination and data management services for studies supported by the Clinical Research Program. Assists research biostatisticians with analysis file creation and statistical analyses. Supports clinical research reporting for data review, quality control checks, and interim and final analysis. Designs, develops, and validates databases using application software suitable for supporting clinical research investigations. Provides educational support and training to investigators and study staff for the development and implementation of research studies. Participates in teaching CRP data management courses to Hospital employees. Provides project and data management support for CRP studies. Provides positive and effective customer service and contributes to teamwork within and between departments, divisions, programs and other organizations. Ensures work in the CRP is performed in conformance with established hospital, program, federal, and state policies and procedures.

Position Summary
The Division of Addiction Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital is seeking a full-time Data Manager I with study coordination responsibilities for multiple research projects. This role will primarily support a NIDA-funded multisite, longitudinal study of adolescent substance use and pain among adolescents undergoing surgery with planned opioid exposure.

This position involves overseeing multiple types of assessments (e.g., questionnaires and data extracted from electronic medical record). It also involves some aspects of study coordination, such as research participant contact, project management, and regulatory activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the design, functionality, implementation, and validation of databases.
  • Develop scoring scripts and automated pipelines for cleaning, preprocessing, and statistical analysis of data for funding requirements and deliverables.
  • Perform data transfers from and to collaborators as part of research collaboration initiatives. Comply with HIPAA data security and data sharing guidelines working with BCH-approved secure file transfer methods.
  • Securely store data collected from research studies, including via OpenClinica, and REDCap.
  • Develop data quality pipeline for questionnaires and EMR data.
  • Optimize data storage health and maintenance using MATLAB, R, Python, SAS, SPSS, etc. with longitudinal datasets.
  • Track changes to study measures, charts, and cohorts, order of tasks, version control
  • Perform regular audit checks for data, combining awareness of how the data are collected with initiation of data-driven data collection methods.
  • Incorporate IRB-required changes related to data management and data sharing.
  • Support PIs and project managers in preparation of progress reports and preliminary data for grant submissions, including streamlining of report generation processes. 
  • Manage data sharing, including data/variable standardization, for biannual data submissions to data repositories (e.g., NDA).
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, psychology, public health, statistics, or health-sciences related field 
Experience:
  • Excellent computer skills, including expertise in Microsoft Office software (e.g., Excel), R and/or Python, SPSS, and familiarity with SAS and STATA
  • Experience in formatting and exporting data for statistical analyses
  • Experience in verifying, documenting, and cleaning large data files
  • Minimum of 2-year commitment is preferred.
