Overview

The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance and Engineering (TFOME) contract at the NASA Glenn Research Center, Lewis Field in Cleveland, Ohio, is searching for a Research Facility Electrician (RFE) to perform a variety of journeyman electrical trade functions such as the installation, maintenance, or repair of equipment for the generation, distribution, or utilization of electric energy.

TFOME is dedicated to excellence in service and to providing outstanding technical opportunities for our employees. We specialize in providing engineering and technical services in the areas of aero/space propulsion and power test facilities to NASA Glenn. 

Responsibilities

  • Install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, power equipment, and components of machinery and equipment following electrical code, manuals, specifications, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Install and repair control and distribution apparatus, including motors, relays, switches, circuit-breaker panels, etc.
  • Install and connect power supply wiring, cables, conduit, and electrical apparatus for machines and equipment in facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints.
  • Diagnose and resolve problems in electrical circuits, systems, and equipment using testing instruments and equipment.
  • Test continuity of circuits to ensure compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments.
  • Measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and install electrical conduit using rulers, measuring devices, hand tools, pipe threader, and conduit bender.
  • May operate facility overhead cranes, bucket trucks, man-lifts, forklifts, and portable cranes. 
  • Qualifications

    This individual must have:

  • Completion of a 4-year State approved apprenticeship program with a Journeyman Electricians certificate and 4 years of additional electrical industry work experience, or 8 years minimum of equivalent journeyman level electricians experience, with 2 years of related technical instruction training that is verifiable by training records or certificates.
  • Associate of Applied Science Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, or graduate from a Vocational Trade School program in Electrical Technology.
  • Familiarity with electrical codes, and knowledge of the proper use of the NEC handbook, NFPA 70E, Electrical safety PPE, and OSHA standards.
  • Familiarity with electrical systems, tools, equipment and instruments.
  • Ability to read electrical blueprints, drawings, and layouts, and use computers.
  • Good attention to detail and follow verbal and written instructions from engineering or supervision.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions from engineering or supervision.

  • Ability to use own judgment and decisions to allow continuity of work flow.

  • Must be self-motivated and a "Team Player" with good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Must be able to organize time and assignments to properly prioritize efforts for maximum effectiveness.
