Responsibilities

The Retinal Regenerative Medicine Laboratory at Mayo Clinic in the Department of Ophthalmology is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to assist in development of a novel approach to retinal gene therapy incorporating fibrin-hydrogel encapsulated AAV vectors.

In this role, the candidate will be part of a team lead by Drs. Alan Marmorstein and Brittni Scruggs that is focused on translation to the clinic of a novel approach to retinal gene therapy incorporating fibrin-hydrogel encapsulated AAV vectors with the goal of submitting an IND application.

The successful candidate will work as part of a team dedicated to GMP process development for manufacture, storage / stability, testing, and shipping of fibrin-encapsulated AAV. This involves design, testing, and qualification of hydrogel formulation, in-process testing, and release assays, in vivo testing, as well as preparation of regulatory filings and technology transfer to external CROs/CDMOs.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates should hold a MD/PhD or PhD in a biological science, and have excellent record keeping, manuscript writing, presentation, and scientific communication skills. Experience with cell culture, cell-based assays, hydrogels, immunofluorescence, gene therapy, and molecular biology is a plus. Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience in ophthalmic.
