Job Description Research Nurse
The Prevention Research Center (SPRC) is a consortium of renowned experts who are world leaders in investigating ways to prevent disease and promote health.
Their work is focused on identifying the most practical, science-based solutions for addressing some of society's most pervasive and preventable health issues, such as obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and other chronic conditions and to raise the standards of scientific investigation that matters for health. SPRC investigators are collaborating on numerous, long-term projects designed to translate research into effective ways to promote well-being at every stage of life.
Located within the Prevention Research Center (SPRC), the Hsing Lab focuses on well-being, cancer prevention, and Asian American health research.
The Hsing Lab is seeking a self-motivated Research Nurse to provide clinical support for a variety of research studies.
The Research Nurse will lead the clinical components of participant visits, including obtaining vital signs; measuring height, weight, arm circumference, waist circumference, and hip circumference; performing 12-lead ECGs using sponsor-provided equipment; collecting blood, urine, and saliva specimens; conducting spirometry assessments; administering protocol-required medications, including albuterol (two puffs) via inhaler and valved holding chamber; and providing participant support and study-related refreshments as required by study protocols. The ideal candidate will ensure that high-quality care is delivered to all research participants by adhering to protocol-mandated therapeutic guidelines, School of Medicine policies, California Board of Registered Nursing standards of practice, the California Nurse Practice Act, and all applicable regulatory requirements.
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent, and two years of experience in nursing, preferably in a research setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated ability to work with research subjects of all ages and backgrounds.
Verbal and written communication skills to convey medical and research-related information to research subjects of all ages and backgrounds.
Ability to identify confidential and sensitive information (written and verbal).
Ability to implement good clinical practices in all interactions with study participants, their families, and colleagues.
Ability to identify adverse reactions to study treatments and the required study protocol documentation to record these activities.
Ability to implement study protocols with supervision.
Ability to provide work direction to research support staff.
Demonstrated understanding of good clinical practices and regulatory compliance.
Demonstrated experience with electronic data capture, including database management.
Demonstrated ability to perform the functions of the position with some supervision.
Requirements:
Certifications and Licenses:
Current license as a California Registered Nurse.
Current basic CPR certification.
Physical Requirements:
Frequently stand/walk, sit, perform desk-based computer tasks, use a telephone, writing by hand, sort/file paperwork or parts, twist/bend/stoop/squat, and grasp lightly/fine manipulation.
Occasionally reach/work above shoulders, grasp forcefully, operate foot and/or hand controls.
Rarely kneel/crawl, climb (ladders, scaffolds, or other), scrub/sweep/mop/chop/mix, operate a manual pipette.
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid California non-commercial class license and operate vehicle during daylight hours
