What We Offer:

Novant his health is looking for a Research Patient Navigator with experience working with oncology patients and/or in a research setting

 

The research patient navigator is a research professional working under the direction of their Novant Health leader and will be primarily responsible for providing research education to patients and their families, serving as a liaison between patients and study teams, and identifying resources and making connections to improve accessibility to research opportunities.  Dedicated to excellence in all aspects of research with a keen focus on ethics, safety, quality, compliance, and stewardship.

 

This position will be on-site with the possibility to become hybrid in the future

 

This is a temporary grant funded position

 

What We're Looking For:
  • Education: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, requied.
  • Experience:  Minimum of 2 years of experience required with patient contact in a healthcare setting. Experience in oncology research in the healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Professional certification in research (ACRP/SOCRA or equivalent), preferred.
  • Additional Skills (required):
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Astute attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as with teams to achieve goals and objectives.
    • Excellent command of technology, including Microsoft Office software.
    • Capacity to provide own transportation to clinics, hospitals, and agencies as required. 
  • Additional Skills (preferred): Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Human Subjects Training.
What You'll Do:
  • Screen provider schedules and review the electronic medical record to identify patients to share general information about clinical trials.
  • Develop and/or obtain research education materials to share with patients, and provide general education on research participation, such as the different phases of clinical trials, randomization, the consent process, and voluntary involvement.
  • Provide general education about public facing websites and access to resources, such as clinicaltrials.gov.
  • Provide education on the decentralized clinical trial (DCT) model for patients who verbalize interest in participating in a DCT, as appropriate.
  • Serve as a liaison between local and academic sites and facilitate provider-to-provider referrals for participation in DCTs and other non-competing clinical trials.
  • Assess patient needs upon initial encounter, including potential barriers to trial participation and address barriers by providing assistance with transportation, appointment reminders, and referral to support services such as financial counselors and social workers as needed.
  • Continue to serve as a resource throughout clinical trial participation by matching unmet needs with appropriate services and referrals.
  • Serve as a liaison and facilitate communication between patients and the study team to optimize clinical trial participation experience.
  • Maintain database of institutional as well as local and national financial and social resources for patients participating in clinical trials
  • Collect and maintain data on patient encounters and linkage to various services provided to document and evaluate outcomes of the research navigation program.
