Under direct supervision of the U54 grant Pl, this position conducts pharmaceutical science research in the Center for Biomedical and Health Research (CBMHR). Specifically, responsible for bioanalysis, drug absorption using the Caco-2 cell culture model and intestinal perfusion model, drug metabolism using enzyme-mediated models, metabolite structure identification, drug elimination and biodistribution using animal models, providing the relevant services and technical support to internal and external users. In addition, this position is responsible for supporting the research and development activities of the university's large center grants, including the NIH U54 RCMI-CBMHR Center, CPRIT CCPF Center, the iO3 Center, and TSU's Catalyst. Assists in grant and paper writing, and presents research at local, national and international meetings. Provides help in lab maintenance.

This is a grant funded position.

Essential Duties Summary

  • Responsible for operating, maintaining instruments and conducting bioanalysis using Waters Acquity UPLC and Sciex tripleQ and high-resolution LC-MS/MS equipment in the RCMI-CBMHR core facility.
  • Conduct drug absorption studies using the Caco-2 cell culture, transporter vesicle membrane, and intestinal perfusion models
  • Lead advanced drug metabolism research, including the preparation and characterization of tissue microsomes, development of in vitro metabolism assays, and evaluation of metabolic pathways and enzyme kinetics. Metabolite structure identification using LC-MS, NMR, etc.
  • Complete cell culture for in vitro ADME studies ensuring compliance with best practices, quality standards, and safety regulations.
  • Maintains all CBMHR instruments, develops and implements comprehensive record-keeping and compliance frameworks on program participants, staff, equipment inventories and compliance activities.
  • Prepare and review facility activity reports, including research activity summaries, operational status documents, instrument usage statistics, and program status to the users, university and funding agencies.
  • Assist PIs in preparation of progress reports and grant deliverables, ensuring scientific accuracy and timely submission.
  • Publishes data and publications in peer-reviewed journals, presents at conferences, and actively pursues external funding opportunities.
  • Provide advanced training, mentorship, and supervision to undergraduate and graduate students, technical staff, and junior scientists in research skills.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Required:

Doctoral degree in biomedical science-related field with experience in pharmaceutical research.

Working/Environmental Conditions

Work is performed within a routine office environment with no exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions.

Physical demands are usually limited to sitting or standing in one location for much of the time.

Some stooping, lifting or carrying objects of light weight may be required.
