Professionals receiving a doctoral degree in psychology should be capable of extending psychological knowledge and exhibiting the high level of analytic skills and theoretical understanding needed to use existing and emerging psychological knowledge.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Project Assistant for The Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP).

Responsibilities for this position are related to grant-funded research examining social disconnection and suicide risk in older adults as well as other research activities in the Psychopathology and Interpersonal Functioning Lab directed by Dr. Nicole Cain at Rutgers University. This position is fully grant funded. This position offers excellent experiences for individuals seeking to apply to clinical doctoral programs or other related programs.

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Handles recruiting, screening, scheduling, and consenting participants.
  • Organizes and oversees data collection, data entry, and data management.
  • Maintains all study protocols and ensuring research participant compliance with smartphone-based real-time monitoring.
  • Prepares IRB applications, renewals, and amendments.
  • Serves as a liaison for study staff and training and coordinating volunteer students to support daily administrative research tasks.
  • Conducts literature searches and collecting scientifically and empirically supported relevant data to assist in manuscript, grant, and conference presentation preparation.
  • Receives substantial training in interpersonal theory and suicidology.
  • Acts as a participant recruitment and retention; data management; general research administration.
  • Prepares grants, manuscripts, and IRB protocols.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelors' degree in psychology or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Previous experience working in psychology research.
  • Skills in word processing, excel, data collection (e.g., Microsoft Office, Qualtrics), and data analytic programs (e.g., SPSS, R, SAS).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in psychology or related field.
  • Experience with developing and maintaining research databases (e.g., Excel, Qualtrics).
  • Experience interacting with diverse populations and strong communication skills as the position will take a leadership role in working with participants and recruitment partners in the greater New Jersey area.
  • Strong organization and time-management skills as this person will take a leadership role in coordinating and implementing grant-funded research projects.
