The experiment station provides a diverse range of research, extension, and education programs that serve the people of New Jersey and the urban, suburban, and rural communities in which they Live. Through its Cooperative Extension offices in all 21 New Jersey counties, dedicated 4-H agents, Extension specialists, Family & Community Health Sciences educators, and Agriculture and Natural Resources agents work to serve New Jersey residents in every area of the state. As the health and wellness component of Rutgers Cooperative Extension, the Department of Family & Community Health Sciences (FCHS) promotes healthy lifestyles and environments for NJ residents and communities with outreach in food, nutrition, and healthy lifestyles. Recognized nationally for its work, FCHS connects Rutgers University and the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station to communities beyond the campus to build healthy families, schools, and communities. Based locally, in each county, FCHS supports efforts to meet the health and wellness challenges facing communities throughout the state through engaged civic learning, volunteerism, service, community-based research, education, and integrated efforts and partnerships.

Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Project Assistant for The Department of Family and Community Health Sciences housed within the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJ AES).

Among the key duties of the position are the following:

  • Provides professional support and leadership to the School Meal and SNAP Dual Enrollment Pilot Project Grant.
  • Creates and manages the data analysis plan, project management, and reporting for the grant. Aids the PI in coordinating research and achieving the goals of the grant in a timely manner.
  • Helps manage and interact with School Meal and SNAP Dual Enrollment Pilot Project research participants and the research team, collecting data using qualitative and quantitative methods, maintaining research databases, analyzing data, preparing research reports and summary materials, and ensuring timely completion of research activities.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 or the applicable provisions of relevant collective negotiations agreements, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • B.A. or B.S. in nutrition, public health, policy or other related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Previous experience working in the areas of education, nutrition, and/or public health research.
  • Basic proficiency and skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and IBM SPSS and NVivo.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous research experience in nutrition, public health, or education related field.
  • Experience with manipulating and managing qualitative and quantitative datasets.

Equipment Utilized

  • Data analysis software (i.e. SPSS, SAS, NVivo); Qualtrics software; Microsoft office: Word, PowerPoint, Teams, and Excel.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Ability to carry 25 pounds.
  • Ability to drive to sites across the state using personal car.

Special Conditions

  • This is a grant-funded position, employment in this position is contingent upon the availability of funds.
