Research Psychometrist

Odyssey is looking for a Research Psychometrist to support the Traumatic Brain Injury Center of Excellence (TBICoE) clinical research mission. As a Research Psychometrist, you  will administer and score objective neurocognitive, psychological, and neuropsychological tests incorporating pertinent behavioral observations.  In addition, you will independently employ alternate or modified assessment instruments and/or strategies as necessary, working collaboratively with staff on research issues and subject concerns, demonstrating  appropriate judgment in responding to emergent patient situations.   This job is onsite in San Diego, California.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Administers and scores neuropsychological and psychological tests for screening and/or clinical research related evaluations on patients with TBI. Documents behavioral observations and testing notes for incorporation into neuropsychological reports.
• Employs alternate or modified assessment instruments and/or strategies as necessary.
• Prepares for testing by reviewing pertinent patient medical records and consulting with staff in advance of patient testing.
• Assists with interpreting test results and writing reports of patient assessments. Reports results that warrant prompt action to the research physicians.
• Schedules patients for testing and other appointments, escorting subjects as necessary.
• Creates and maintains paper and/or electronic systems that may be necessary in order to accomplish these tasks (e.g. spreadsheets with contact information) as needed.
• Maintains a close liaison with clinic and research neuropsychology staff to aid in subject recruitment, standardized assessments, and best practices.
• Maintains research project records in compliance with study and IRB requirements, as needed.
• Assists in research activities, following all regulatory requirements as appropriate.
• Works collaboratively with clinical and research staff on issues and patient concerns and demonstrates appropriate judgment in responding to emergent patient situations.
• Maintains testing supplies/files and equipment in an organized manner. Maintains appropriate databases as needed to track testing supplies, patient encounters, or recruitment efforts in a standardized manner.
• Maintains and updates assessment testing skills as appropriate e.g. current version of measures, new measures.
• Assists with grant proposal applications and their associated documentations and requirements as appropriate and contributes to manuscript preparation activities as requested. Facilitates the flow and approval processes for relevant projects as needed or requested.

Minimum Required Qualifications

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen.

Clearance:  Ability to Obtain Secret.

Education:  Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field (Master’s Degree Preferred). Training in standard psychological/neuropsychological and/or neurocognitive test administration and evaluation.

Years of Experience: A minimum of 1-3 years of clinical experience in psychological and cognitive test administration required. Prior experience assessing TBI or neurological conditions preferred. Prior experience within the DoD/VA systems of care preferred.

Certifications: Must maintain Continuing Education credit sufficient to maintain both their certification and to meet medical facility specific Quality Assurance standards for credentialing – as applicable. Current certification in Basic Life Support and Human Subjects training. Must complete CITI/ HIPAA training.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• The candidate must be able to communicate effectively and to work with individuals of all levels and backgrounds.
• Demonstrated clinical acumen is required to maximize effort in a testing milieu, establish patient trust and cooperation, make relevant observations, and adapt to change in evaluating subjects of different disability during complex testing modalities.
• Excellent communication skills are required to impart complex test results to other professionals. Incumbent must also pay meticulous attention to detail for accurate instrument completion, scoring, and data entry.
• Candidates must possess interpersonal skills to work effectively with patients, families, and staff.
• The incumbent must be able to work comfortably with computer software, including a variety of neuropsychology/neurocognitive testing programs and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of procedures and techniques necessary for performing research tasks is preferred.
• Physical Capabilities: Walking, including escorting patients, standing, bending and carry up to 25 lbs. Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time.
• Work Environment: Office, clinical and hospital environment. May encounter or work with patients who are confused, agitated or abusive.
• Must be available to travel locally, regionally and nationally.
