Salary Range: $40,325 - $44,650/Annualized, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.

Job Summary

The Research Science Associate II performs professional level engineering and scientific research assignments. This position leads, conducts or assists with the dissemination of knowledge through scholarship, scientific inquiry and creative expression. This role requires full proficiency gained through job-related training and considerable on-the-job experience to perform a range of tasks. This position takes a broad perspective to solve problems and spots new, less obvious solutions. This role identifies key issues and patterns from partial/conflicting data.

Core Responsibilities

• Selects, trains, schedules, supervises, and evaluates lab instructors and lab technicians.
• Set-ups, cleans, resets, and restocks equipment and supplies needed of lab periods; maintain inventory of equipment.
• Provides guidelines for all instructors for lab exercises; supervises field personnel during projects; maintains accurate records of research; and develop, update, and improve lab manuals.
• Selects and determines procedures in design, research, surveys and investigations; record observations and measurements; and compile data.
• Inspects minor fabrication, erection or assembly for conformance to specifications. Conducts specified phases of research projects.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma, Vocational Training or Apprenticeship in a related field.
• Three (3) years of related work experience.
• This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters degree in Biological Sciences, or related field.

Working Conditions

• Usual laboratory or office conditions. Sometimes requires working with hazardous equipment or materials. May require travel off-campus and extended overnight stays. Security Sensitive. Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions or other business-related events. Workdays, areas, and work hours may vary based on the needs of the department.

Physical Demands

• Ability to push, pull, or lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations. Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. Repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Reaching overhead, at or below shoulder level.

This position will work primarily on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
