Research Scientist Genitourinary Medical Oncology - Research

UT MD Anderson is seeking a Research Scientist to join a multidisciplinary genitourinary (GU) medical oncology team focused on advancing cancer research through innovative scientific investigation and collaboration. The Research Scientist will contribute to scientific projects involving pathologic image analysis for cancer immunoprofiling studies, supporting high-impact translational research efforts within department.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong expertise in histopathology and digital pathology, along with experience in cancer immunoprofiling and multidisciplinary collaboration. A background in clinical research involving both human and animal models, combined with experience in data analysis, manuscript preparation, and laboratory team leadership.

Responsibilities

Scientific Research & Project Development

• Develop and perform research projects focused on GU cancers and other cancer types
• Lead cancer immunoprofiling studies and digital pathology initiatives
• Provide technical expertise in immunoprofiling and image analysis
• Bridge scientific approaches between human and mouse models

Histopathology & Specimen Evaluation

• Conduct histopathologic review of fresh frozen and FFPE tumor and normal samples
• Participate as a research pathologist for optimal biospecimen collection and processing
• Review slides and digital images to identify novel insights and research opportunities

Data Analysis & Scientific Communication

• Perform data management, analysis, and interpretation for research projects
• Assist principal investigators in manuscript preparation and grant applications
• Compile, write, and submit scientific reports to stakeholders
• Develop systems for data tracking, management, and reporting

Team Leadership & Collaboration

• Plan and supervise training of laboratory technicians and personnel
• Build and lead a pathology-focused research team
• Participate in group meetings and coordinate work with disease site committee pathologists
• Serve as an immunology liaison to collaborators and disease site committees

Protocol Development & Operational Support

• Create scientific content for digital pathology and immunoprofiling protocols
• Respond to protocol revisions, contingencies, and study updates
• Support emerging objectives of GU medical oncology and related collaborators
• Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION:

Required: Master's Degree Natural sciences or related field.

Preferred: PhD Natural sciences or Medical Degree

EXPERIENCE:

Required: Four years experimental or scientific work. Two years experimental or scientific work with medical degree. No experience required with PhD.

Preferred: Clinical research experience. Translational experience.
