Description
Purpose of the Position:
The Sysoeva laboratory at The University of Alabama in Huntsville, Department of Biological Sciences, invites applications for the position of Research Scientist. The selected candidate will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator in conducting comprehensive research and performing various activities on projects funded by NASA.
Duties / Responsibilities:
• Performing comprehensive research in the area of microbiology and bioinformatics. • Developing a machine learning model, testing and optimizing using genome and phenotypic data to predict resistance markers in bacteria. • Designing and implementing AI/ML pipelines for multi-omics data integration, including supervised and unsupervised learning methods. • Conduct network-based analysis (gene regulatory networks, protein-protein interaction networks, metabolic networks) to identify key biomarkers of resistance and sensitivity to radiation and other stressors. • Collaborate with microbiologists, physicists, and bioinformaticians for data interpretation and validation of computational findings in experimental settings. • Disseminate research outcomes through publications in high-impact journals, conference presentations, and workshops. • Mentor and support the training of graduate students and early-career researchers in AI and -omics data analyses.
Minimum Requirements:
• Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Computational Biology, or a related field with laboratory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and years of experience. • 0-3 months of full-time work experience. • Proven experience in genomics and omics data analysis (transcriptomics, metabolomics, microbiome, or similar). • Experience with bioinformatics tools and databases. • Proficiency in Python, R, and Unix/Linux-based environments for high-performance data analysis.
Desired Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Computational Biology, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related field and 2 years of laboratory experience with excellent written and oral communication skills are desired. • Proven experience in genomics and other omics data analysis (transcriptomics, metabolomics, microbiome) is preferred. • Expertise in machine learning, deep learning, and advanced AI frameworks is desired. • Experience with bioinformatics tools and databases is desired. • Proficiency in Python, R, and Unix/Linux-based environments for high-performance data analysis is desired. • Strong publication record in relevant peer-reviewed journals is desired.
