A person with a PhD degree who works in a laboratory and does work specific to that laboratory. A Research Scientist is paid by the Principal Investigator either from sponsored funds, seed package or IDC and can be hired at any time after earning a PhD or after any length of time as Post Doc. A Research Scientist has full employee benefits . The incumbent should have knowledge and background in Research. The incumbent will also be responsible for supervising/overseeing other departmental technical staff, graduate students, and student workers with regard to the proper and safe use of the laboratory experiments, and laboratory equipment. This is an advanced position in the Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy at LSUHSC in Shreveport. The applicant should have 7+ years of small animal cardiac surgeries. This includes myocardial infarction (MI), Transverse aortic constriction (TAC), and cardiac Ischemia/reperfusion injury in mice and rats. The applicant must also be trained to administer AAV gene therapy through direct cardiac or jugular vein injections. Applicant will isolate primary cardiac cells (cardiomyocytes, fibroblasts, and immune cells) from neonatal and adult mouse/rat hearts. The applicant will be responsible for maintaining the control drug records required for these surgeries and helping with the inspection/audit of the use/disposal of these drugs. Ideal candidates will have multiple years of experience in these areas. Scientific writing: Prepare research reports, scientific papers, and publications for submission to journals. Collaboration: Work with other researchers, both within and outside their field, to share knowledge and expertise Presentation: Present research findings at conferences, seminars, and workshops Funding acquisition: May be involved in writing grant proposals to secure funding for research projects Literature review: Stay updated with current research in their field by reviewing relevant scientific literature 5%: Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
