Job Description and Duties

THERE IS ONE VACANCY BEING ADVERTISED ACROSS MULTIPLE COUNTIES. THE INCUMBENT WILL BE HEADQUARTERED IN THE COUNTY NEAREST THE RESIDENCE OF THE SELECTED CANDIDATE. THE COUNTIES ARE: Contra Costa, Sacramento

The Research Scientist Supervisor I (RS Sup I) leads the Evaluation Science Unit (ESU) and works under the general direction of the Research Scientist Supervisor II lead of the Health Equity Research and Statistics Section (HERSS). This section is part of the Research and Evaluation Branch (REB) in the Office of Health Equity (OHE). The incumbent provides technical and scientific oversight for the planning, implementation, analysis, and dissemination of scientific program evaluation projects across OHE. The RS Sup I provides daily supervision, administrative guidance, and direction to evaluation Research Scientists working on a wide range of topics including, but not limited to, gender health and behavioral health. The RS Sup I directs the workload of supervisees, responds to drills and assignments, reports on activities and outcomes, coordinates with other program and scientific staff in OHE and throughout CDPH, and engages with partners and collaborators outside of CDPH. The RS Sup I is responsible for the scientific integrity of all program evaluation work produced by ESU. The incumbent exercises a high degree of initiative, flexibility, and originality in a substantial decision-making role.

Working Conditions

Telework Information:

This position may be eligible for telework. The amount of telework permitted is at the discretion of the Department and is subject to change, consistent with CDPH's Telework Program. All employees who telework are required to be California residents in accordance with Government Code 14200. Candidates who reside outside of the state of California may be interviewed; however, the selected candidate must have a primary residency in the state of California prior to appointment (and continue to maintain California residency) as a condition of employment. Failure to meet this requirement may result in the job offer being rescinded.

Travel may be required for this position. Reimbursement for travel takes into consideration an employee's designated headquarters, as reflected in the duty statement, and is subject to regulations and bargaining unit contract provisions.
