The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene is seeking a qualified, full-time candidate for Research Scientist V position. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain an innovative, externally funded research program in translational neuroscience; contribute to graduate and medical education; mentor trainees; and participate in departmental and institutional service. Research areas of interest include human induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived disease models, organoids, tissue patterning, live imaging, spatial or single-cell approaches, mechanobiology, and developmental signaling, along with state-of-the-art approaches to innovative targeted genetic manipulation and screening. 100% FTE.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Scientific Program: Oversee an ambitious and innovative research program in translational neuroscience and precision psychiatry to advance the understanding of psychiatric illness pathophysiology and therapeutic development. Design, optimize, and implement protocols for culturing, maintaining, and differentiating human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) into 3D brain organoid models. Perform CRISPR/Cas9-based genome editing to generate and validate novel iPSC reporter lines or disease models.
• Grant Acquisition: Secure extramural funding by writing and submitting competitive research grants (e.g., NIH R01 or equivalent).
• Publication: Publish findings in high-impact peer-reviewed scientific journals and present data at national and international conferences.
• Scientific Collaboration: Provide technical expertise, consultation, and collaborative support to other faculty investigators and research groups utilizing stem cell models.
• Supervision & Training: Train graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and laboratory technicians in advanced iPSC and 3D organoid culture techniques.
• Teaching and Service: Contribute to graduate and/or medical student teaching in fields like neuroscience, stem cell biology, or regenerative medicine.
• Mentorship: Actively mentor undergraduate, graduate, and medical trainees in laboratory research.
• Institutional Service: Participate in departmental meetings, faculty committees, and academic peer review.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Master's degree and (6) years of professional research experience in an appropriate field or Ph.D. in an appropriate field may substitute for one year of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Candidates should have demonstrable evidence of a highly established track record of innovative research productivity and funding.
