Position Description
Advertised Job Summary
The research specialist will assist in conducting research on NIH-funded studies focused on anxiety and communication in children with neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorder and fragile X syndrome. This individual will work with the principal investigator and grant staff to assist in conducting assessments, collecting and managing data, behavioral coding, report manuscript writing, and preparing professional presentations.
Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Requires a bachelors degree in a job-related field and 1 or more years of job-related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job-related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Required Certification, Licensure, or Other Credentials
Preferred Qualifications
Experience conducting research or direct experience working with children with neurodevelopmental disabilities. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience working with children with neurodevelopmental disorders, previous experience with research, ability to handle travel demands across South Carolina and within the United States, ability to sensitively and professionally interact with children and their families.
Job Duties
Job Duty 1: Collect data and conduct behavioral assessments in a standardized manner with families and children with neurodevelopmental disorders and typically developing controls. Travel for assessments within the state of South Carolina and across the United States as required. (Essential Function: Yes, Percentage of Time: 40)
Job Duty 2: Manage data, including report scoring, behavioral coding, data entry, and reporting summaries in a consistent and timely manner. Calculate and ensure reliability and fidelity on behavioral assessments. Train and supervise undergraduate students in data management procedures. Job Duty 3: Conduct pre- and post-assessment duties, including screening potential participants, scheduling assessments, preparing measures to administer, scoring assessment data processing, completed data, and mailing information to families. (Essential Function: Yes, Percentage of Time: 20)
