Job Summary:

Northwestern's Department of Linguistics seeks a Research Study Assistant to coordinate its research facilities, equipment, and resources, and to oversee day-to-day activities of its research labs.

The Linguistics researchers (faculty, research staff, graduate students, and undergraduate research assistants) employ a variety of methods including behavioral measures, eye tracking, and audio and video recording. The RSA will support the researchers in all aspects of experiment implementation and data collection, including equipment solutions and data management methods, assessment of software programs, and developing new user interfaces where necessary. The RSA will create and maintain user documentation, oversee the maintenance of hardware, and ensure the smooth functioning of computers and equipment for researchers and study participants.

This is a full-time position at 37.5 hours per week where work is performed on site at the Evanston campus. The target hiring range for this position will be between $17.05 - $20.00 per hour which is $33,375 - $39,150 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

This is a one-year term position renewable based on project needs and funding.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Manage the Linguistics laboratory operations, including oversight of equipment maintenance and research supplies, and participant scheduling.
• Provide technical support for Linguistics researchers, including programming support.
• Provide general support, including promotion and knowledge sharing of ongoing research and studies in the labs and coordinating multiple researchers' schedules.
• Train undergraduate research assistants.
• Manage crowd-sourcing pipelines, including participant information and expenses.
• Manage invoices and coordinate fund distribution among multiple sponsors.
• Develop protocols and assist with Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelors or higher degree in a major such as social or health science or related: OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
• Prior applicable experience in working or volunteering in a research setting.
• Must complete NUs IRB CITI training before interacting with any participants & must re-certify every 3 years

Minimum Competencies:

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Outstanding organizational skills and ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects

Preferred Qualifications:

• Training and experience with at least one research-related technical method (e.g., eye tracking, EEG/ERP, acoustic analysis in Praat)
• Familiarity with higher-education/lab-based research
• Familiarity with specialized speech and language software including Praat, ELAN, Montreal Corpus Tools, PsychoPy and crowdsourcing platforms (e.g., Prolific, Pavlovia
