    Join Our Research Team

    The Healthy Lifestyles for Humanity Research Center at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center is seeking a highly organized and personable Research Study Recruiter to support participant recruitment, screening, and enrollment activities for the HABITS (Making Healthy Habits Stick) study. The successful candidate will serve as a primary point of contact for prospective participants and healthcare providers, helping ensure efficient study enrollment and successful completion of required medical clearances.

    This position is not benefit-eligible.

    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in public health, psychology, health sciences, social sciences, nursing, or related field.
    • Experience working with research participants, patients, clients, or healthcare consumers.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
    • Ability to communicate professionally with participants, healthcare providers, and research staff.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Previous experience in clinical or behavioral research.
    • Experience conducting participant screening or recruitment activities.
    • Experience working with electronic data capture systems or research databases.
    • Familiarity with HIPAA and human subjects research regulations.
    • Experience communicating with healthcare providers and medical offices.
    • Experience coordinating multi-step workflows and follow-up activities.

    Ideal Candidate

    The ideal candidate is an organized, detail-oriented individual who enjoys interacting with people, is comfortable making frequent follow-up calls, and can successfully manage participant recruitment and medical clearance workflows. This person should be proactive, dependable, and committed to helping participants navigate the research process from initial contact through enrollment.

    Work Schedule: Part-time or full-time (depending on funding and study needs). Occasional evening or weekend work may be needed.

    Reports To: Principal Investigator and Research Project Manager/Study Coordinator

    This position offers an opportunity to contribute to NIH-funded research aimed at improving long-term physical activity and health outcomes among cancer survivors.

    This position is not benefit-eligible.

    The Recruiter will be responsible for screening potential research participants, conducting eligibility assessments, maintaining recruitment databases, obtaining and tracking medical clearances from healthcare providers, and coordinating participant progression through study enrollment activities. This position requires excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple follow-up activities simultaneously.

    Participant Recruitment & Screening

    • Conduct telephone screening interviews with prospective participants using approved study protocols.
    • Assess eligibility criteria and accurately document screening outcomes.
    • Communicate study information to interested individuals and answer participant questions.
    • Schedule screening, consent, orientation, and baseline assessment appointments.
    • Maintain regular contact with prospective participants through phone, email, and text communication study approved methods.
    • Track participant status throughout the recruitment and enrollment process.

    Medical Clearance Management

    • Follow up with physician offices, clinics, and healthcare systems to obtain completed medical clearance documentation.
    • Monitor pending medical clearances and maintain accurate records of follow-up attempts.
    • Communicate professionally with medical office staff regarding study requirements.
    • Ensure required medical documentation is received and appropriately filed

    Participant Coordination

    • Guide participants through enrollment requirements.
    • Send reminders regarding study appointments and required documentation.
    • Maintain participant engagement during the recruitment and onboarding process.
    • Coordinate rescheduling and follow-up activities as needed.
    • Assist with participant retention efforts.

    Data Management & Documentation

    • Enter and maintain participant information in study databases.
    • Maintain accurate recruitment, screening, enrollment, and medical clearance logs.
    • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, institutional policies, and study protocols.
    • Maintain secure and confidential participant records.

    Study Support

    • Assist with recruitment events and community outreach activities.
    • Support study investigators and research staff with participant-related tasks.
    • Participate in study team meetings.
    • Assist with regulatory documentation and reporting as needed.
