Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist V within the section of Pediatric Population Science at the Rutgers Cancer Institute, Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

Under direct supervision of the Principal Investigator, the purpose of the Research Teaching Specialist V position is to engage in research lab activities. The Research Teaching Specialist V will support highly specialized and technical research within the lab.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Participates in aspects of research and ensures compliance with study protocols. Monitors progress of projects. Reports to the Principal Investigator on project progress, problems, and the need for adjustments.
  • Supports recruitment, screening, enrollment, and consenting of participants for studies per project timelines. Ensures participant completion of study activities per protocol. Maintains study recruitment, accrual, and participation documents.
  • Assists with creating surveys using survey software programs as directed. Under the direction of the PI, abstracts information from medical records per protocol, maintaining confidentiality of data.
  • As directed, engages in data collection, including conducting semi-structured qualitative interviews and administering surveys per study protocol.
  • Supports study data entry, data management, preliminary data screening, and data cleaning throughout the project, as assigned.
  • As directed, provides support in other data processing and analysis. Prepares reports containing findings, analysis, conclusion and recommendations (i.e., grants, summaries, etc.), as requested.
  • Enhances recruitment and data collection efforts given participants' busy schedules, research activities may require flexible (i.e., evening or weekend) activities on occasion per project demands. Any changes to the work schedule will be discussed with the PIs in advance.
  • Assists with progress reports, administrative, regulatory, and study accrual/progress updates for all assigned studies.
  • Under the instruction of the Principal Investigator, drafts materials for IRB submissions and renewals.
  • Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, supports targeted literature searches.
  • Helps maintain the lab website.
  • As directed, provides support in the preparation of presentations and assists in the preparation of manuscripts and grants.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Health Education, or Public Health.

Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple project responsibilities and deadlines.
  • Computer literature with proficiency and working knowledge of database and reporting tools, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Behavioral Science research experience is preferred.
  • Written and oral proficiency in Spanish is a plus, though not required.
  • Skills with survey building software such as REDCap and Qualtrics as well as qualitative software programs such as NVivo or Dedoose preferred.
