Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist V for the Center for Advanced Biotechnology and Medicine (CABM) within Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS).

The primary purpose of the Research Teaching Specialist V is to investigate how host-microbe interactions influence health and disease through multidisciplinary approaches integrating molecular biology, immunology, microbiology, and experimental model systems. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Teaching Specialist V will perform cellular and molecular biology experiments related to the ongoing investigatory activities of the laboratory, contribute to laboratory setup, assist with maintaining laboratory organization and research operations, and participate in collaborative research projects.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Conduct research under the direction of the Principal Investigator and actively participate in laboratory meetings.
  • Assist in establishing laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures and support the setup, organization, and operation of a newly established research laboratory.
  • Assist in the day-to-day maintenance of laboratory space, equipment, supplies, instrumentation, and inventory, ensuring a safe and efficient research environment.
  • Prepare laboratory reagents, buffers, media, and solutions.
  • Perform and assist with molecular, cellular, biochemical, microbiological, and animal research techniques, including sterile technique, cell culture, bacterial culture, PCR, genotyping, immunostaining, microscopy, protein biochemistry methods, mouse handling, colony management, tissue collection and processing, and related experimental procedures in accordance with established laboratory protocols.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation, organize and analyze experimental data, and assist with the preparation of figures, presentations, manuscripts, and laboratory reports.
  • Assist the Principal Investigator in training laboratory personnel and trainees in laboratory techniques, standard operating procedures, and safe laboratory practices.
  • Support laboratory administrative activities, including ordering, receiving, shipping, inventory management, and coordination of laboratory resources.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Neuroscience, or a related life science is required.

Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must possess knowledge of standard molecular and cellular biology laboratory techniques.
  • Must be able to accurately perform laboratory experiments, maintain detailed laboratory records, and organize and analyze experimental data.
  • Must possess strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior research experience in an academic or biomedical research laboratory is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with sterile technique, cell culture, immunostaining, microscopy, protein biochemical methods, or related laboratory techniques is preferred.
  • Prior experience working with laboratory mice or a willingness to learn murine research techniques is preferred.
  • Experience mentoring or training students or laboratory personnel is desirable.

Equipment Utilized Physical Demands and Work Environment

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking, seeing, and hearing. Manual dexterity and visual acuity sufficient to perform routine laboratory procedures and computer data entry and analysis. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Laboratory and animal research facility environment. Universal laboratory safety precautions are mandatory
