JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Department of Pharmacology, Addiction Science, and Toxicology at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences is seeking a Research Technician 2 to support a major NIH-funded grant. The primary focus of this position is the application of advanced molecular technologies to support research on the neurobiological mechanisms of substance use disorders.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, or a related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: OR a combination of college coursework and work experience to equal four (4) years.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge in molecular technology and genomic protocols.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail for record keeping.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team.
WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends.
- Performs complex molecular biology procedures, including DNA and RNA extractions, Oxford Nanopore DNA sequencing (focusing on CpG methylation and direct RNA), and library preparation for single-nucleus RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq).
- Perform brain dissections and tissue collection (nucleus accumbens, prefrontal cortex, and amygdala) to support multi-omics studies.
- Manages the record-keeping and documentation.
- Manages the rodent breeding colony.
- Performs general laboratory maintenance.
- Orders supplies.
- Ensures the integrity of experimental data through meticulous adherence to protocols and detailed documentation.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
