The Research Technician Evans Lab will perform experiments as part of a pre-clinical neuroscience team focused on understanding how light modulates the brain. In addition, this individual will gather and analyze experimental data, help organize inventory, and help to train and supervise student volunteers.
Duties and Responsibilities
Perform lab work related to the execution of ongoing research projects, including preparation of reagents, preparation of molecular, cellular, behavioral, physiological assays, and small animal surgery. The ideal candidate will be able to interpret data, trouble-shoot technical problems, and keep accurate records of experimental procedures.
Perform animal colony management and execute day-to-day operations in transgenic rodent colonies. Daily responsibilities may include: • Husbandry • Handling • Breeding • Genotyping • Weaning • Euthanasia • Record keeping This involves coordinating with other lab members to identify needed cohorts of animals, design experiments, and perform animal husbandry to maintain a high quality of research.
Analyze experimental data, prepare figures to visualize results, and communicate findings during lab meetings.
Maintain regulatory compliance and licensure for federal, state, and university requirements in relation to the use of animals, biohazardous materials, and controlled substances for research.
Train and oversee student volunteers and lab personnel with different levels of research experience, i.e., undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral trainees.
Complete laboratory-related purchases using the Marquette University purchasing system and maintain proper inventory of research-related items.
