Department Information

The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research (Wells Center) conducts basic science and translational research within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine (IUSM). The Wells Center houses more than 300 faculty investigators, staff, and trainees seeking answers to the most pressing questions related to childhood illness. With the collaboration between scientists and physicians, the center aims to increase knowledge of causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases. Our goal is to develop innovative approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of sick children in Indiana and beyond.

Job Summary

Department-Specific Responsibilities

• Conducts research with animal models (mice) and in vitro cultures and all associated duties.
• Conducts animal and invitro research on mechanisms pertaining to the development of allergies.
• Maintains mouse colonies and mouse models of disease.
• Performs laboratory techniques, tests, processes, and methods including flow cytometry, ELISAs, qPCR, genotyping, molecular biology, cell culture, and data analysis.

General Responsibilities

• Performs a wide variety of complex experiments and reports results.
• Keeps organized analytical data of performed experiments.
• Provides support for equipment maintenance as needed.
• Acts as a liaison to students and laboratory personnel for training.
• Maintains laboratory supply requisition and management.
• May train junior-level staff.
• May help plan experiments or short-term goals.

Qualifications

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

EDUCATION

Required

• Bachelors degree in science or a related field.

Working Conditions / Demands

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary

$40,000.00 - 45,000.00 annually determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
