Job Title: Research Technician I

Division: Integrative Physiology

Work Arrangement: Onsite only

Location: Houston, TX

Salary Range: $32,355 - $38,065

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Summary

A Research Technician I position is available in the laboratory of Dr. George Rodney in the Department of Integrative Physiology at Baylor College of Medicine. Research in the laboratory focuses on skeletal muscle physiology, including calcium (Ca²) signaling, excitation-contraction coupling, and muscle function. Techniques used in the lab include molecular biology, protein biochemistry, confocal fluorescence imaging, and in vitro muscle force measurements.

The successful candidate will assist with established laboratory procedures under supervision and contribute to ongoing research projects. Preferred computer skills include Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are essential.

Job Duties

  • Assist with care and handling of mouse models, including basic husbandry and genotyping.
  • Assist in the preparation and conduct of routine laboratory experiments following established protocols.
  • Collect, compile, and maintain accurate experimental data and records.
  • Perform basic molecular and biochemical assays in support of laboratory projects.
  • Assist with tissue collection and processing using standard techniques.
  • Support measurements of skeletal muscle function using established procedures and equipment.
  • Maintain laboratory organization, including cleaning, stocking, and preparation of materials.
  • Order and track laboratory supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Conduct literature searches and summarize findings relevant to ongoing studies.
  • Document experimental procedures and results in an organized and reproducible manner.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate''s degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with mouse handling or animal care is beneficial.
  • Experience with basic laboratory techniques.
