Position Summary:

Odyssey Systems is currently seeking a Research Technician (Level II) to support research programs and projects within the Wound Infection Department’s Animal Models group at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR).

 

Responsibilities:

Duties include, but not limited to: 

  • Provide technical support in the research and development of novel medical countermeasures against wound infections, specifically in animal models of wound infections.
  • Serve as technical expert in the microbial pathogenesis and related virulence factors in animal trial protocols.
  • Serve as technical expert in the host and immune response to immune modulation and/or infectious disease in animal trial protocols.
  • Serve as technical expert to investigate microbial colonization and explore novel methods to mitigate infection.
  • Assist in preparation and proper execution of animal use protocols.
  • Maintains accurate and appropriate research records including maintaining a laboratory notebook compliant with standards of laboratory work (replicability) and with WRAIR/Army regulations.
  • Analyze and report experimental results from each technical research support area to stakeholders and leaders. Information regarding this analysis and report shall be included in the monthly report.
  • Maintain laboratory operation to include insuring stocks of laboratory supplies and reagents, ordering supplies and preparing supply requests for approval, annual inventory of micro-organisms, annually updating of technical research support area SOPs, maintaining a supply of clean glassware, properly disposing of hazardous biological and chemical waste, preparing reagents, and maintaining an inventory of laboratory chemicals, orderliness and cleanliness.
  • Maintain a safe workplace ensuring that he/she is aware of and observes appropriate safety and occupational health rules and regulations. Employee is required to complete safety training relative to his/her position and report any infractions of safety procedures to the COR and facility Safety Officer.
  • Serve as Alternative Bacterial Disease Branch collateral duty officer in accordance with Safety Office and other applicable guidelines IAW WRAIR Joint Safety Manual.
  • Obtain required annual occupational physical examinations and serologic tests and any required security clearances for work in department laboratories.
  • Specialized training in new methods and procedures, as needed.
Qualifications:

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen or green card holder living in the U.S. for the past 3 out of 5 years

 

Minimum Required Qualifications

Clearance: Ability to obtain NACI

Education: B.S. in biology or related field

Years of Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience as an animal models specialist

Certifications: N/A

 

Preferred Qualifications

Clearance: NACI

Education: B.S. in biology or related field

Years of experience: More than 3 years experience as an animal models specialist

Certifications: LAT

 

Technical Skills

  • Must be able to work with laboratory animals
  • Must be able to occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds
  • Must have experience in a BSL2 environment

 

Interpersonal Skills

  • Teamwork, communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, attention to detail, multitasking
