Overview: The research technician II FT will work in the research laboratory of the PI and assist him in most aspects of a project regarding studying how multidrug efflux, metabolism and physiology are co-regulated in bacteria, especially Escherichia coli. The main duties will include assisting the PI in training undergraduate and graduate students in the lab and helping them with experiments; performing experiments, data analysis and assisting in preparation of research publications/presentations; laboratory maintenance and safety; ordering and inventoring of research supplies and reagents; construction and/or maintenance of bacterial strains.

Duties and Responsibilities (other duties as assigned):  

• Training undergraduate and graduate students in the lab and helping them with experiments

• Performing experiments, data analysis and assisting in preparation of research publications/presentations

• Laboratory maintenance and safety; ordering and inventoring of research supplies and reagents; construction and/or maintenance of bacterial strains

Qualifications:   

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a job-related field.

Knowledge, Specialized Skills, and Abilities:  

The position requires significant labotatory hands on experience working in a molecular microbiology laboratory doing research with Escherichia coli and other bacteria; and a background in studying antibiotic resistance, multidrug efflux pumps and their regulation. Major required skills include aseptic technique, bacterial growth media preparation and autoclaving, and bacterial culturing; cloning and gene deletion in bacteria (e.g. random mutagenesis, Datsenko method gene deletions, Crispr mutagenesis; standard or in-fusion cloning); antibiotic suceptibility testing (disk difussion and broth MIC assays); gene expression assays uzing promoter-lacZ, promoter-gfp, and RT-qPCR assays; growth curve assays; biochemical colorimetric and fluorescence assays; PCR and Sanger sequencing experience; and familiarity with genomics and transcriptomics.

This position is employed through The University Corporation (TUC).

The anticipated hiring range: $28.00 per hour
