The Research Technician II supports the Rosbash Laboratory in its investigation of the molecular and genetic mechanisms underlying circadian rhythms in Drosophila melanogaster. The technician performs a range of experimental procedures—including fly stock maintenance and genetic crosses,
behavioral assays, molecular biology techniques, and data collection and analysis—to advance the laboratory’s research program. In addition to bench work, the Research Technician handles ordering of supplies and reagents, administrative support, and general laboratory upkeep to ensure smooth day-to-day operations. This role works under the direction of the Principal Investigator and contributes to the overall productivity and organization of the lab.

Job Functions:

(50%)

  • Maintains Drosophila stocks and performs genetic crosses, including preparing food and vials, scheduling and executing time-course experiments at defined circadian time points, and keeping accurate records of strains and lineages. (30%)

  • Orders and manages laboratory supplies, reagents, and equipment, obtaining quotes, processing purchase orders, tracking deliveries, monitoring inventory, and reconciling expenditures against the lab budget.(10%)

  • Provides general administrative and operational support for the laboratory, including scheduling, maintaining safety and compliance documentation, organizing shared spaces and equipment, and assisting with other lab tasks as assigned. (10%)

The salary range for the position is $43,050-$53,800 (annualized, will be paid hourly)
