The Seyfferth lab in the School of Life Sciences at ASU seeks to fill a Research Technician position. This is a full-time (40 hours per week), benefits-eligible position for one (1) year with the possibility of annual renewals based upon interest, satisfactory performance, available resources, and the needs of the lab.
Research in the Seyfferth lab broadly focuses on soil biogeochemistry, with projects focused on carbon, nutrient, and contaminant cycling in soil and uptake into plants. The Research Technician will play an integral role in supporting the lab’s research activities, including plant and soil digestions, extractions, and elemental analysis, research compliance, and lab safety and organization. Please note that this position is not eligible for Visa sponsorship.
Position Salary Range: $22.50 - $23.50 per hour; DOE
Essential Duties:
Learn, apply, and teach methods essential for the Seyfferth Lab, including plant and soil extractions, microwave digestions of plant and soils, elemental analysis with ICP-QQQ-MS, X-ray fluorescence, and spectrophotometry.
Maintain records for purchasing, maintaining lab equipment, and ensure safety protocols are being used in the laboratory.
General lab support such as organizing reagents and materials, maintaining supply inventory, and ensuring lab cleanliness.
Assist with onboarding and training of new lab members.
Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
This position receives regular review of objectives by department administrator.
Desired Qualifications:
Previous experience with the following will be advantageous.
Bachelor’s degree in the natural sciences with relevant coursework or lab experience with chemical principles.
Experience with analytical techniques in a lab setting
Strong organizational skills
Working Environment:
Activities are performed in an office, lab setting and in the field subject to extended periods of field work, sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse, and standing for varying lengths of time. Wear personal protective equipment before entering laboratories such as lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, closed toe shoes, and respirator. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
