Department: MED-Psych & Behavioral Science

Salary/Grade: NEX/9

Job Summary:

Conducts tests and procedures; sets up and operates equipment; records observations and measurements and collects and compiles data in a research lab; requires a practical understanding of a limited number of standard scientific techniques.

Please note: The target budgeted salary for this position is approximately $40,000 to $43,200 annually. Offers will be based on candidate experience and education, as well as equity within Northwestern University.

Specific Responsibilities:

Histology:

• Tissue fixation/processing: embedding, preparation of blocks and sectioning, staining
• Microscopy

Animal

• Dissections

Other (please specify):

• Running behavioral experiments with mice
• Scoring behavioral videos

Miscellaneous

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities.)

• Ability to follow detailed instructions and established protocols
• Basic computer skills, including spreadsheets and data entry
• Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping
• Ability to work as part of a team and complete assigned tasks reliably
• Manual dexterity

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biology, psychology, or a related field

Preferred Competencies: (Skills, knowledge, and abilities)

• Prior exposure to a laboratory or research environment (academic coursework or volunteer experience acceptable)
• Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques or animal handling
• Interest in neuroscience or biomedical research

Target hiring range for this position will be between $17.25 - 22.09 per hour. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
