Buckhorn Resources was formed in 2012 to pursue a strategy of aggregating oil and natural gas mineral rights and royalties in areas of active development across North America. Buckhorn has deployed more than $300 million of equity and is currently investing through Buckhorn Minerals VIII, with a focus on undeveloped assets in the Permian, Eagle Ford, and Haynesville.
\nBuckhorn Resources is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Reservoir Engineer to join our Houston team. This is an entry-level position with significant on-the-job training and is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career engineer interested in learning about the oil & gas industry, mineral and royalty investing, and energy markets.
\nThe successful candidate will work closely with Buckhorn’s investment team to evaluate acquisition opportunities and monitor existing assets. The role provides exposure to reservoir engineering, production analysis, economics, land, geology, mapping, and investment underwriting.
· Evaluate mineral and royalty acquisition opportunities across the Lower 48, with a focus on the Permian, Eagle Ford, and Haynesville.
\n· Analyze well performance using decline curve analysis, production data, type curves, and completion characteristics.
\n· Build production forecasts and economic models to evaluate potential acquisitions.
\n· Analyze lease operating statements, well-level financial data, ownership interests, taxes, differentials, and other commercial information.
\n· Build and maintain ComboCurve databases, including production forecasts, ownership interests, taxes, differentials, and economic assumptions.
\n· Create and maintain ArcGIS maps to analyze land positions, existing and future wells, permits, rig activity, and operator activity.
\n· Monitor drilling and development activity across Buckhorn’s areas of interest.
\n· Maintain and analyze production and economic data for company-owned mineral and royalty assets.
\n· Assist with due diligence and other analytical work related to acquisitions.
Qualifications\n· Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
\n· 0–5 years of experience; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
\n· Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including basic formulas, sorting, filtering, and formatting.
\n· Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
\n· Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
\n· Ability and willingness to learn new software, including ComboCurve, ArcGIS, and other industry-specific tools.
\n· Strong interest in the oil & gas industry and energy markets.
\n· Takes ownership of work and can operate independently with limited supervision.
\n· Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical and analytical concepts.
· Direct exposure to oil & gas mineral and royalty investing and the acquisition process.
\n· Experience evaluating real-world investment opportunities across major U.S. oil & gas basins.
\n· Training in reservoir engineering, production analysis, economic modeling, mapping, and investment underwriting.
\n· Exposure to senior members of the investment team and involvement in active transactions.
