Primary Responsibilities /Accountabilities/ Essential Functions:

  • Oversee the daily operations of co-curricular campus residence halls and/or apartment communities.
  • Supervise Resident Directors, Assistant Resident Directors and Resident Assistants including training, performance management, employment/scholarship decisions.
  • Provide guidance and support to Resident Directors and Assistant Resident Directors in escalated situations.
  • Meet regularly with Resident Directors and staff to ensure open communication regarding policies, processes, programs, staff development and living area concerns.
  • Provide weekly on call incident support in collaboration with other Residence Life Managers.
  • Provide information to the Behavioral Intervention Team Case Manager regarding student mental health and behavioral concerns.
  • Complete administrative functions for assigned living areas including maintaining financial resources, student leader scholarship management, employee timecard monitoring, and other needs as required.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with university policies, Residence Life policies and any government regulations.
  • Attend meetings, trainings and development sessions and serve as a liaison between university departments and organizations.
  • Participate in department committees, providing coaching and general oversight of planning.
  • Respond and provide support in disciplinary and emergency situations as necessary.
  • Support residential learning through the Community Learning Plan and efforts associated with academic support, spiritual formation, and cultural diversity.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent written and in-person communications skills.
  • A thorough understanding of university regulations in order to articulate to students and discuss rationale.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work independently, meet expectations and deadlines.
  • Strong customer orientation and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and problem resolution skills.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize work, cope with changing priorities, and perform well under pressure.
  • MS Office Suite proficiency.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervise Resident Directors and Resident Assistants.

Experience/ Education

  • Bachelors degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution required; a masters degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years related experience preferably in-Residence Life in higher education. Similar and relevant experience will be considered.
  • Prefer prior experience mentoring students, student development, or other people management experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be substituted upon supervisors approval.
  • Must be willing to work on-call schedules, weekends, holidays as needed.
  • Must successfully pass a background check.
