Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, the Residency Coordinator I reviews applications for resident classification, including but not limited to, non-resident tuition waivers, HB 102, HB 144 and WUE, nonresident tuition waivers, and Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) eligibility to determine student residency status. This position provides guidance and training on Utah residency policies and procedures, responds to residency-related inquiries, maintains residency records and documentation, and coordinates with the Utah System of Higher Education and internal college partners on residency matters.

Process residency applications, admit and update Banner residency coding. Coordinate with other departments and campus partners such as Veteran Services, Dream Center, Summer Bridge and Athletics to provide outreach efforts to SLCC students.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

  • Review and evaluate applications for resident classification, nonresident tuition waivers, and WUE eligibility.
  • Apply Utah residency law, Utah System of Higher Education policies, and institutional procedures when making residency determinations.
  • Communicate residency decisions and requirements to students, applicants, and stakeholders.
  • Maintain accurate residency documentation and student records in compliance with FERPA and GRAMA.
  • Process residency updates and maintain residency coding in Banner.
  • Provide training and guidance regarding residency policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with various departments in Student Affairs and Business Services on residency related matters.
  • Support outreach efforts and provide residency information to prospective and current students.
  • Generate and maintain residency-related reports as needed.
  • Other duties as Assigned

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of policies and procedures outlined by Utah System of Higher Education R512 policy
  • The needs of economically and educationally disadvantaged populations; understanding the process and policies for HB102, HB144/118, DACA, Undocumented students
  • Computer database software such as Banner, Etrieve, Salesforce, Enrollment Rx, Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, and Teams
  • Knowledge of basic office procedures including imaging, record keeping and customer service

Skills and Abilities:

  • Data entry;
  • Ability to prioritize workload, work under pressure and communicate well with staff and students;
  • Maintain compliance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and GRAMA;
  • Organize time, activities and projects productively;
  • Communicate effectively and timely with students and administrators, and policymakers;
  • Work effectively with individuals of broad and differing backgrounds;
  • Make sound and timely decisions and defend effectively;
  • Articulate laws and policies diplomatically;
  • Write concise, timely and understandable instructions and procedures;
  • Adapt and implement to new policies and procedures;
  • Work effectively under pressure;
  • Work effectively within admissions, student records;
  • Follow established policies and procedures;
  • Work within computerized information systems;
  • Understand and work within requirements for Utah residency law and policies;
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.

Minimum qualifications

To be considered for this position, all candidates must:

  • Have an associate degree in education, educational psychology, sociology, communications, ethnic studies, or related field.
  • Zero-to-two years of direct professional experience. Experience may be traded for education on a 2:1 ratio (2 additional years of education equals 1 year of relevant experience). Related part-time experience will be pro-rated.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Experience working in a higher education environment, particularly two-year schools.
  • Bilingual or multilingual ability.
  • Experience with Banner or other SIS systems
