Resident Camp Director - Mataguay Scout Ranch

Description: Under the guidance of the San Diego-Imperial Council Camping Director, the Camp Director is responsible for oversight Mataguay Scout Ranch. The Long-Term Resident Camp Director is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, and operation of a Scouts BSA resident summer camp. This position ensures the camp delivers a safe, high-quality, and mission-focused program that supports youth development, outdoor adventure, leadership growth, and the values of Scouting America.

The Camp Director provides management and supervision of all camp operations, including program delivery, staff recruitment and training, customer service, health and safety compliance, risk management, budget oversight, facility coordination, and camper experience. Working closely with professional staff, volunteers, and seasonal camp personnel.

Responsibilities: The camp director is responsible for the management and operation of the resident camp and ensuring that Scouting America national standards are met. The camp director may delegate supervision of certain employees to key staff members.

Specific Duties: The camp director’s specific duties include the following;

• Oversee the training of camp staff members and conduct staff meetings
• Oversee camp administration, registration processes, budgeting, purchasing, and financial accountability
• Maintain and evaluate staff performance
• Enforce all Scouting America, local council and camp policies, rules and regulations
• Oversee operation of the camp trading post and ensure fiscal policies are followed
• Meet Scouting America's National Camp Accreditation Program standards within every area
• Work with rangers, fellow directors, and other key staff members to ensure objectives are met
• Assist with selecting and recruiting capable camp staff members
• Work with the Camp Program Director to ensure program quality meets or exceeds Scouting America standards
• Manage risk assessment, emergency preparedness, incident reporting, and health and safety protocols
• Participate in pre-camp communications and promotions including unit leader meetings, emails, and social media posts
• Direct all aspects of resident camp operations before, during, and after the camp season
• The director must also live on-site and have no other duties assigned
• All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• Applicants must be registered members of Scouting America or agree to become registered as Camp Staff before employment begins.
• Applicants must be a responsible and capable person at least 25 years old.
• Applicants must have at least two years of experience as a adult camp staff member.
• Applicants must have a current (within five years) certificate of training from Scouting America's National Camping School - Long-Term Resident Camp Director, or willingness to obtain certification before the opening of camp.
• Applicants must have strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Applicants must complete required training courses:
  • Safeguarding Youth Training
  • CA Unlawful Harassment Training for Managers
  • Hazardous Weather
• Applicants must have or obtain Red Cross certification in First Aid and CPR/AED that is current and will remain current throughout the employment agreement.
• Applicants must have ability to supervise and mentor a diverse seasonal staff team.
• Knowledge of Scouting America programs, policies, and outdoor program delivery is preferred.

Salary is based on position responsibility, with consideration given to the individual's experience.
